Artist's Statement:

I am moved and inspired by the colors, the natural light, and spirit or energy inherent in each of the subjects of my paintings. In a sense, I often think that the subject matter chooses me so that I can transfer the effect it has on me to canvas to share it with others. As with my perception of the often whimsical or playful nature of all that our surroundings have to offer the attentive eye, I endeavor to weave into my paintings the light, the color, shapes and forms of the wonderful subjects in our midst.

Shulthess' primary medium is oil. She uses loose and expressive strokes with rich colorful hues to highlight the wonder of the moment. Betsy feels that her paintings are humble attempts to capture and convey her unique and spirited approach to painting.
